On Saturday 31st May, Notting Hill welcomes a new friend into the fold: Polpo Venetian restaurant and bar – what’s more they’re knocking 50% off the bill for the entire weekend.

Polpo is a bàcaro – in Venetian this means a humble restaurant that keeps its food simple and orders in good, young local wines. Sounds like my kind of place.

You’ll find a selection of small dishes, from fish to meatballs (there are six different types, from lamb and mint to chickpea, spinach and ricotta) meat, such as sliced flank steak, and pizzette.

Desserts include innovative additions like nutella pizzetta, chocolate salami and strawberry and basil panna cotta. And it’s not pricey either, with dishes costing around the £6 mark.

It’s in good hands, too, with Jason Wass in charge of all things in the kitchen (formerly head chef of the Benugo group) and Alexis Ross (formerly of Mishkin’s) keeping everything just so front of house.

Polpo Notting Hill joins the family of restaurants based in Covent Garden, Soho and Smithfield – and it’s a lovely coincidence that the restaurant on Beak Street (Soho) was once the home of Venetian painter Canaletto.

But let’s not get too nostalgic; right here here, right now there’s 50% off at the new Polpo Notting Hill all weekend, don’t miss out!
