Street Eats: BOOM Burger

Drink, Food, News  /

Back with extra bite, Portobello’s BOOM Burger has had a revamp, serving up Jamaican-inspired fast food to West London locals.

What to Expect

Order at the counter and watch as the chefs get to work building your burger. If you’re lucky, grab a table inside (there are only two) or make for the benches outside and enjoy the spring sunshine. The shabby chic beach shack vibes are strong – squeezed in to the corner is a wooden-clad bar that wouldn’t be out of place on a Caribbean island. And while it may be small, the burgers are a big hit…

What to Eat

Take your pick from several different burgers, made to order using fresh, local ingredients. Go hard with the Mad BOOM – two beef patties, cheese and bacon jam – or try the Jerk BOOM, which includes jerk chicken with fried plantain, rocket, mango and pawpaw sauce.

The Fish BOOM (can you see a theme here?) made from pan-fried fish of the day with rocket, Escovitch sauce and chilli jam

Vegetarians, sink your teeth in to the Veggie BOOM made from roasted sweet potato with chill jam, avocado, salsa and rocket. Choose from a generous portion of regular BOOM Fries or Plantain Fries to accompany your burger, or there are fresh salads if you’re watching your waistline.

What to Drink

Order a cocktail and pretend you’re lying on a beach far away, with the sounds of reggae music in your ears. There are also cans of Red Stripe for beer-drinkers, and a few soft drinks available. Look out for fresh juices and smoothies coming soon.

Best for…

A quick lunch that beats your go-to sandwich hands down.

Don’t Miss

The seriously hot scotch bonnet sauce. Rumour has it that talks are in progress to get it in to production.
