New Opening: Jikoni

Food, News  /

On the 20 September, award-winning food writer and cook Ravinder Bhogal will launch her debut restaurant Jikoni in Marylebone. Having had a few residences at Trishna and Carousel, Jikoni will welcome guests to Ravinder’s ‘extension of her home kitchen’…

What to Expect

Jikoni, means ‘kitchen’ in Swahili. Expect to taste flavours that will take on traditions from Ravinder’s mixed heritage and travels – across Britain, East Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Recipes will be dedicated to the maternal figures who made Ravinder’s world “safe with their food” – and visitors will share the kitchen wisdom and tips that Ravinder had passed onto her. “The food at Jikoni is simply the kind of food I love to cook and eat with friends and family at home,” says Ravinder.

What to Try?

The menu will feature Snacks; Small Plates; Big Plates; and Desserts. Expect a few twists on British classics including a Prawn Toast Quail Scotch Egg with banana ketchup and pickled cucumber and a Goan-inspired Scotch Egg with tomato and ginger chutney and spiky carrot achaar on the snacks side.

The Small Plates will include an Indian take on the American Sloppy Joe made with Herdwick Mutton Keema, pickled onions and mint chutney. Comfort food dishes will be a big part on the menu – there’s a Shepherd’s Pie with a spice-infused twist; or Ras Hal Hanout Lamb served with Mujadarra (cooked lentils and rice).

Don’t Miss

The daily changing Rice Plate, which will celebrate curries from all over the world. Look out for the Kuku Paka, a Kenyan chicken curry made to a family recipe.

Best For…

Lovers of spice, comfort food dishes, and dishes that evoke memories of family feasting.
