London Falafel Festival 2016

Food, News  /

This Bank Holiday weekend, vegetarians and fans of Middle Eastern food alike will flock to Borough Market to watch four great falafel-makers compete for the love, and vote of 500 Londoners, in the first ever London Falafel Festival.

Who are they?

The celebration of everybody’s favourite pulse is brought to Londoners by Young & Foodish – the team behind the London Pizza Festival.

What to Try

Everything! You will be asked to judge which of the dishes you think should be crowned the London Falafel Festival’s Golden Falafel, so you will need to try all four before casting that all important vote! Do not panic though: each serving will be a bit smaller than a full-sized sandwich or plate so you should have plenty of room to make a fully informed decision.

What to Drink

Refreshing and restorative beverages, including cocktails and craft beers, will be provided to help cleanse the pallet between dishes.

Best for…

Steak. Just kidding! It’s falafel, in every shape and style. Competing for the coveted falafel trophy are (drum roll please) Shoreditch-based Origins Of‘s “Trilafel”, a beautiful beetroot falafel made with three pulses; Pilpel falafel bar’s acclaimed Spiced Chickpea Falafel Sandwich; and Hoxton Beach’s Crushed Falafel made with a 50:50 blend of fava beans and chickpeas.

Don’t Miss

The final competitor is travelling all the way from Cairo exclusively for this event. The acclaimed chef Moustafa El Refaey of Zööba will showcase his Signature Falafel which is prepared with fava beans, stuffed with charred aubergine and drizzled with beetroot and hibiscus tahini.

Where?

Borough Market’s Jubilee Place. Try not to get distracted by the other food stalls enroute, although we know it will be tempting…
