We speak to Kevin Tang, managing director of Chinese Bright Courtyard Club, as he celebrates the restaurant’s 5th birthday.

Describe Bright Courtyard Club in three words…

Sophisticated. Elegant. Authentic.

bright courtyardYou brought Bright Courtyard from Shanghai to London, how did you adapt the food, drinks and style for Londoners?

When making the move to London we made the effort to start working with local producers to ensure fresh produce as well as supporting our local community. We knew that some things would need adapting to suit our new audience, so introduced a few more recognisable dishes and ingredients to ensure that we were accessible while remaining unique and traditional. We also had W.S.E.T wine training so our staff are fully able to advise our guests in food and wine matching.

We know you like to experiment… How did you create your unique Oriental dishes compared to the more traditional meals?

Through trial and error – we got lots of customer feedback and made adjustments to make sure that we were able to cater for our Chinese audience as well as Londoners!

What was your biggest inspiration when creating the menu?

Very much our existing site in Shanghai – we knew what dishes were the most loved over there and which dishes had very much become our signature dishes.

Bright Courtyard are very proud of their dim sum

What do you think defines modern Cantonese food?

Innovation, style and quality.

Tell us a bit about the team behind the scenes…

Our Cantonese chef and Shanghainese chef have worked with us from the start, bringing with them many years of culinary experience from famous restaurants in Hong Kong and Shanghai. We hope to continue working with them, creating new and exciting dishes in the years to come.

What dishes would you recommend?

We are very proud of our Dim Sum, particularly our very special assortment of seafood dim sum. Our signature dishes also include Diced Fillet of Beef in black pepper sauce and a delicious Braised Pork Belly.

Where do you source your ingredients?

We source from local suppliers where possible and call upon Chinese producers for our more traditional ingredients.

Happy 5th anniversary! How has the restaurant evolved in five years and where do you see it going in the next five years?

Thank you! We are very excited to reach this milestone. It takes time to build up the brand and become recognised by locals. We are really happy with all of our successes and are quietly confident that our popularity will continue to grow year by year!
