Expect flakes of gold and homegrown herbs in the brand new cocktail menu at The Hari, London’s newest hotel, in Belgravia.
What to Expect
Once part of the Thompson Hotel Group, The Hari is the first concept from Harilela Hotels and opened at the end of August this year and a second hotel will follow in Hong Kong in 2017.
Despite its prestigious address, the atmosphere in the bar is relaxed. For the warmer months, there’s an intimate terrace complete with retractable roof, where whiskey and cigars (as you do) can be ordered and enjoyed at leisure. There’s a minimum spend of £25 – easily covered by a couple of drinks – in the bar and terrace from Thursday to Sunday after 9pm, so sit back and savour each sip.
What to Drink
With bold ingredients from fresh chilli to masala chai, there’s a cocktail for you, whatever your preference. With an insatiable sweet tooth, I opted first for Martini in the Garden, a blend of vodka, Campari, watermelon and lime, topped with fresh mint. A number of cocktails on The Hari’s varied and extensive menu include fresh herbs from their garden terrace, including the most popular Thyme is Endless…, combining vodka with blueberries, thyme and lime.
My drinking partner in crime for the evening chose The Hari, the hotel’s signature cocktail and much-loved by its Indian owner. An indulgent mix of gin, masala chai, honey and gold, this is a decadent treat for the eyes and taste buds.
Up next for me was The Custodian, containing rum, papaya, ginger and lime. I’m fan of ginger, and wow, did this have a kick. And this wasn’t alone, every flavour in each carefully constructed cocktail makes its presence known, yet there is a clever balance between the ingredients. Take The Tahona, a punchy combination of tequila, Triple Sec, fresh pineapple, coriander, fresh chilli and lime – if you’re a tequila fan, this is one not to be missed!
What to Eat
While the cocktails are the focus, there’s a food menu on offer in the bar and terrace, containing snacks, sandwiches, burgers and desserts. And the Milk and Cookies cocktail – a delicious blend of vodka, Frangelico, chocolate liqueur, honey and almond milk – comes with cookies if you’re feeling peckish.
Ok so we have to admit, averaging at £17 a cocktail, drinks at The Hari aren’t cheap. However, with Christmas around the corner, the chilled bar is the perfect place for a festive catch up with friends or to treat someone special… or even to be treated yourself. It’s a date night winner! Sink into one of the sumptuous armchairs and lose a few hours catching up, cocktail in hand.
Liven up tea time with the Botanical Tea Pot – gin infused with Jasmine Silver Needle, champagne and lemon served in a teapot to share between two. Saturday afternoons don’t get any more stylish than this.
