Veggie Eats: Tibits

Drink, Food, News  /

Help yourself and pay by the plate… Tibits is shaking up vegetarian and vegan dining in the city with a new opening in Bankside.

What to Expect

While eating out as a vegetarian isn’t as monotonous as it once was, for a city with a restaurant scene as diverse as London, there are still a limited number of places dedicated to offering meat-free dining. Tibits – a Swiss import with two UK restaurants, including its brand-new Bankside establishment – offers a new concept to tackle an old bugbear.

Not only is it chic – with interiors by Atelier Oi, whose other clients have included Louis Vuitton and Hermes – it’s designed with the diner in mind: there’s a huge self-serve counter filled with vegetarian morsels, a pay-for-what-you-eat philosophy and the option to eat in or takeaway from breakfast through to dinner. Not only that, every Tuesday is vegan day!

What to Eat

Whatever you fancy (as long as it’s meat-free), you’ll most likely find it! There are fresh salads, sides and dips available throughout the day (think vibrant beetroot salad, plump, juicy olives and houmous packed with herbs), alongside a changing menu of hot mains reflecting seasonal ingredients – the Spelt Risotto Marinara is always a hit, while the Samphire Stir Fry goes down a treat.

What to Drink

Get your week’s recommended vitamin intake in one sitting and order a juice or a smoothie with your meal. If you’re not feeling quite so virtuous, there is a good selection of wines, beers and Prosecco. And check out the cocktail menu, with classics, including a Bramble or a Mojito, as well as Tibits’ own creations, like the Malibu Vanilla Matcha.

Best for…

If you have a friend who’s always on a diet, this is a great compromise for group dining; you can control your own portion sizes and be as healthy as you want to be (or not). Get your five a day with delights such as the Vegetable Tartare or satisfy your carb cravings with Deep-fried Okra and Focaccia with Spinach and Feta.

Don’t Miss

Save room for one of the desserts (the Strawberry Panna Coco is a winner). The proof is in the vegan pudding!
