From street-food faves to permanent residency at The Barley Mow in Shoreditch, The Bell & Brisket has now taken over the kitchen at The King & Co in Clapham, bringing South London a taste of their iconic salt beef bagels. But quick, this residency is only ’til May…

Who are They?

Think lip-smacking, hand-brined salt beef bagels pimped up with crunchy pickles, blow-torched cheeses and spicy sauces. The Bell & Brisket founder Bel Shapiro uses artisan ingredients and unusual toppings to “prove that a quality salt beef bagel is so much better than a burger!”

There’s the classics: The Lord Rupert with pickled cabbage, Dijon mayonnaise, melted Cheddar and Vadasz Deli dill pickles; or our favouriteThe Duke for a hot twist with roasted tomato chipotle relish, pickled onions, melted Monterey Jack, jalapeño sour cream and Vadasz Deli Hot Roots.

The Bell & Brisket - Filthy Fries

Filthy Fries

What to Try…

There’s something for everyone or every occasion whether it’s a quick small plate like the ale-braised Brisket Croquettes with pickled red onion and fresh horseradish sauce – you’ll be pleased to know they’re less on the potato and all about the meat! Or take on the Hot Smoked Mackerel with salsa verde quinoa and grilled broccoli.

Staying longer and sharing with friends? Nothing beats the Filthy Fries topped with ale-braised brisket, chipotle relish, jalapeño sour cream, gherkin and melted cheddar. Move over all regular fries. If you can’t pick between the salt beef or the brisket, then just devour The Brisket Board, with both the salt beef, brisket, pickles and mustard. We recommend sharing!

Choose from a selection of beers; the Chocolate Ganache on Rye

Don’t Miss…

If you still have space after all that feasting (because everyone has an extra stomach for dessert right?) then order the Chocolate Ganache on Rye. Created exclusively for Bel’s residency by Batch Bakery, this takes on classic deli ingredients – the rye base – while sticking to their cocoa roots.

What to Drink…

Beer-lovers, check out The King & Cos beer board for a monthly selection of ales, lagers and stouts from London breweries, as well as breweries from the UK and Europe. If you’re stuck on pairing or need a nod in the right direction, speak to any of the staff for their great tips. Start off with a Cloudwater Brew’s Pale Ale, refreshing after a long day at work, while you decide what to feast on. We ended on Pressure Drop’s Stout, pairing it with the rich flavours in our dessert.

The Brisket Board is perfect for sharing

Weekend Brunching…

If you’re in need of a boozy brunch on the weekend, pop in for The Full Irish with creamy Colcannon, thick-sliced salt beef, parsley sauce and caramelised shallots; plus Hash It Up crushed potato and onion hashes topped with poached egg and hollandaise, and Bel’s take on salt beef “bacon”. Add bottomless Bloody Marys, Cava and selected cask ale for £15.

Set in Clapham, The King & Co is a great spot for locals and newbies.
