Thai Square in Putney Bridge is an unexpected gem, tucked away next to the river. We ventured down to sample their veggie offering ahead of National Eat Your Veg Day.

What to Expect?

This branch of the Thai Square chain is run by head chef Oula. A master of Thai cuisine, taught by a lady in waiting from the Thai Palace, she demonstrated her skills in a quick vegetable carving workshop. Nimbly cutting and moulding veg to make beautiful flowers and leaves, she insisted it really wasn’t as hard as it looked…

What to Try

The food is authentic – sour, sweet and salty – but watch out for the spice; the sweet chilli sauce had our taste buds tingling!

Starters – golden purses, spring rolls, summer roll, som Tum, wheat crackers

We recommend veggie fans try the Golden Purses to start. We were surprised to find it was hiding cheddar cheese in the middle! The Som Tum – or papaya salad to you and me – was also a nice light and refreshing starter.

If you’re after a veggie dish with a difference for your main, make sure you try the Eryngii (King Oyster) Mushroom dish. It comes battered and crispy with chestnuts and cashew nuts in a sweet tamarind sauce.

It’s all about the sweet, salty and sour flavours

What to Drink

The cocktails are the star of the show! Strong and delicious. Drink your way through the menu and have fun working out which ones come served in the quirkiest glasses.

Best For…

If you’re making a reservation, make sure you request a window seat as the dining area is upstairs with an amazing view of the Thames.

Don’t Miss

Rumour has it their Trafalgar Square branch has a spa!
