Hidden among the arches around the corner from Southwark station, head to Thai Silk bar for tempting deals on classic cocktails.
What to Expect
Tucked away along Isabella Street, Thai Silk bar, Royal China Group’s latest opening, isn’t the easiest place to find. However, it’s worth the effort: a sports bar-cum-club, lounge on the large sofas to watch major sporting events, or show off your best moves when the DJ takes to the floor from 7pm on Friday and Saturday nights.
What to Drink
With a happy hour every day from 5pm to 7pm, take your pick from an extensive cocktail menu. Enjoy well-made favourites, including a Disaronno Sour or an Espresso Martini, or try one of the ‘long cocktails’ which have been given the bar’s own twist.
The Thai Silk Cocktail, which is made with Midori, Malibu, banana liqueur and pineapple juice, is served with a paper umbrella – one sip and you’ll feel like you’re kicking back on the beach of an idyllic Thai island, rather than avoiding the showers in grey Central London. There’s also a varied wine list, and beers and spirits are available too.
What to Eat
If you start to feel peckish, there’s a bar menu with Thai snacks, such as Vegetarian Spring Rolls and Calamari Rings, as well as dim sum, including the lightest Prawn Dumplings and Minced Pork Dumplings. Thai Silk restaurant is also next door, if a few drinks turn in to dinner.
Post-work cocktails (wear your dancing shoes, just in case) or Saturday night drinks when you can’t decide whether to hit a bar or a club.
Take your drink out on to the al fresco terrace. There are eco-friendly halogen heaters until the weather gets warmer!
