Craft beer meets Italian-American street food at Mason & Company.
What to Expect
Located in the Here East development in East London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Mason & Company is a craft beer bar and kitchen from Five Points Brewing Company and Capish. There’s a small but bold menu of Italian-American street food, sitting alongside a much larger menu of craft beers – there are over 20 beers on tap.
What to Eat
American-style sandwiches are given an Italian makeover. Favourites include the Steak ‘Braciole’ – 45 day-aged steak topped with taleggio cheese, pickled red onions and aioli and served up in a toasted brioche roll – and the Meatball Hero (pictured top), with pork and beef balls, marinara sauce, rocket and provolone cheese sauce on a 9” polenta-crusted sub.
Vegetarians aren’t overlooked: the Eggplant Parm (pictured above) includes a stack of panko-breaded aubergine, along with sautéed kale, pickled red onions, marinara sauce, a parmesan crisp and paprika salt in a brioche roll.
And then there are the fries – the skin-on Italo-Fries come with a choice of homemade sauces (try the chipotle mayo) or, if you’re feeling indulgent, go for the Italian Poutine – fries topped with beef shin ragu, provolone cheese sauce and pickled pink onions.
Just like what Mama used to make… but a hundred times better!
What to Drink
Well, beer of course! From Nice Time, a tropical pale ale brewed with passionfruit, pink guava and blood orange, to Club of Slaughters, a smoky and rich dark chocolate vegan imperial stout, there’s a tipple for every taste.
There’s a choice of wines, as well as cocktails, unsurprisingly with a splash of beer – try an Aperol Spritz served with pale ale instead of prosecco.
Chilling out with a schooner and a sandwich after work, or a casual lunch with friends in one of the pine-clad booths.
Make the most of the rare winter sunshine on the terrace and take in the canal-side views.
