In the commercial heart of the city, ‘SMITHS’ of Smithfield are opening their second restaurant in Cannon Street, offering informal yet sophisticated dining, catering to businessmen and foodies alike.
What to Expect
‘SMITHS’ has a cosy yet lively atmosphere, with its New-York style decor and buzzing bar, and offers top quality British food along with well-selected wines and craft beers.
What to Eat
Named after 800 year old Smithfield Market – the largest wholesale meat market in the UK – ‘SMITHS’ do meat well. All of their meat is sourced from trusted UK farmers (nearly half coming directly from Smithfield Market itself) and butchered in house by the head chef; we saw this in action and it’s pretty impressive.
Cooked to perfection and full of flavour, the ‘SMITHS’ signature range of rare breed steaks is not to be missed. Looking to the rest of the menu you’ll find hearty British classics with a twist, from the Grilled Halibut with Lobster Mash, served with spinach and parsley sauce to the Black Pudding, with crispy bacon and cauliflower purée, or try Henry’s Cornfed Chicken – chicken liver roll, sweetcorn and leeks. Following its launch on 21 November, the menu is set to expand further, so watch this space…
What to Drink
There are a range of craft beers on offer at ‘SMITHS’, as well as an extensive wine list (each wine has been chosen by master of wine David Gleave for its character and sustainable production). Along with well-made, classic cocktails, the bar at ‘SMITHS’ is set to become a favoured after-work watering hole.
Stylish but accessible British dining, with interesting takes on classic dishes.
Have we mentioned how good the steak is?! This is by no means a restaurant only for meat-lovers, but the meat is the star of the show.
