A pop up in Peckham, a year-long residency at Climpson’s Arch, and a successful crowdfunding campaign later, som saa are finally staying put in the exciting launch of their new restaurant near Spitalfields. This is a restaurant opening to leave your desk at lunch and skip work early for.
Who are som saa?
Chefs and co founders Andy, Mark and Tom have travelled and worked across South East Asia sourcing ideas, inspiration and decoration – you’ll get a real feel for Thai cooking and dining.
Fact: som saa reached and beat their £550,000 crowdfunding target in just three days.
What should you try?
Get a taste of regional Thai dishes, as som saa take their original menu of Northern and North-Eastern dishes a whole step further. Choose from a selection of curries with fresh coconut cream including Gaeng daeng moo yaang – red curry with grilled pork, green banana and holy basil. If food off the wok’s more your thing there’s Pad char ahaan talay – stir fried prawns, clams and squid with lime leaves, young peppercorns and wild ginger as just one example.
Tip: Take some friends for the sharing dishes, Tom yam kha koo thort – hot and sour soup with whole deep fried pork hock – for four.
There’s more street-food dishes promised after the initial opening, with a brunch and lunch menu, and if it’s a quick social drink after work you’re after then go for the Ahaan gap klaem at the bar – that’s Thai drinking foods to you and I! We can’t wait to try out Thai-inspired cocktails.
When can you go?
som saa is set to open 11 April.
