Indian food doesn’t always have to be limited to an over-indulgent greasy curry takeaway or a vast menu with 100 curries that make no sense. Head to New Delis for a mix of dishes that’ll showcase a few other meals that can be found across India, as well as a build your own curry bowl concept.

What to Expect

Recipes take inspiration from home cooking. Think complex blends of spices that add rich flavour to each dish, yet a menu that keeps it simple in choices.

What to Eat

We loved the range on the menu that shows off Indian street food, starters and mains. Choose the Delhi Papdi Chaat – a refreshing, light dish with papri (they’re like crispy wafers), chickpeas, potatoes and a mix of tangy chutneys, or there’s the Bombay Slider – a potato patty in bread. There’s a few other chaat options and Bhaji. Then choose from a few dishes off the grill including the Grilled Chicken – similar to tandoori chicken in taste and texture, or make it spicy with the Wings-On-Fire.

Next, you have the option to make your own Curry Bowl: choose a sauce – leafy spinach, butter masala, cashew royal for mild taste buds and a Punjabi dhaba for hot tastes; choose your protein – paneer cheese, veg, chicken, lamb or prawn; and lastly tailor your spice. Add some extras, whether it’s rice, roti, naan or salad. The curry is filling, but not as heavy as some of your usual takeaway options, whilst full of heat and flavour. Alternatively go for the Indian Stir-Fry Bowl, following a similar build your own format!

What to Drink

Feeling for some spice? Go for the Bhangra Chaas, a cooling drink with coriander, mint, ginger, chilli, roasted cumin and vodka. It has a kick to it and is similar to a salted lassi, but if that’s too much you can ask for it to be sweet with the addition of rose water.

The Jewel Thief is a favourite on the menu – a lychee Martini with turmeric and rose petal royal, or go for the Bihar Ke Bomb – a shot with Tequila, lemon juice, green chillies and shaken with ice.

Best for…

Quick and easy dining where you can tailor your own sides, spice and flavour in this central spot.
