Feast your way through a selection of Japanese dishes at Murakami. We share our favourites from this newly renovated restaurant in the heart of Covent Garden…

What to Expect

Murakami fits the Izakaya style of Japanese “pub” dining in which an array of dishes are served with Japanese beers, lagers, wine and whiskey. Not to mention that cocktail menu… The menu features dishes including starters and rolls from the Sushi Bar; hot plates; and dishes from the Robata Grill, and all make great sharing if you’re dining with a friend.

What to Eat?

Seafood lover? Start with the Sashimi Salad for a refreshing quick bite, or share the Yellowtail Carpaccio, perfectly zingy with the addition of yuzu (citrus) soy and a chilli kick. Murakami have a great sushi selection including Oshisushi, which is popular in Osaka – this is pressed sushi, using a wooden block, in a rectangle shape. Then there’s the Aburi rolls, which are partially seared using Japanese charcoal.

Red Wave Rolls

Our favourite had to be the Red Wave Roll – spicy tuna and cucumber in a roll, wrapped in tuna with Kizame Wasabi and Wasabi Mayo. Oh so tasty with a kick. And don’t miss the Murakami Roll, with salmon, tuna, avocado and tobiko wrapped in a cucumber sheet – refreshing and light!

And in need of something more filling? Feast on the Salmon Teriyaki from the Robata grill, or choose to share the Popcorn Tempura with shrimp.

What to Drink

If you’re a cocktail lover, hit the cocktail menu for classics with a few Asian twists. Try the Negative Negroni, with Akashi Tai Honjozo sake; or the Memories of a Geisha with vodka, lychee, strawberry, cucumber and fresh lemon. You’ll also find a great, affordable sake selection, as well as Japanese whisky and beer.

Best for…

Located on St Martin’s Lane, this is prefect for pre-show dining, or relaxing over weekend brunching away from the bustle of the shops.
