Magic Roundabout Secret Hideaway

Food, News  /

Situated in the middle of Old Street roundabout, accessed by a secret staircase in the tube station, summer favourite Magic Roundabout has been winter-proofed – offering award-winning meat and vegetarian street food, artisan coffee, cocktails, craft beers.

Take a step out of the ordinary in Magic Roundabout‘s party spot for “eats, beats and booze“. Top DJs will take to the decks playing a mix of disco, house and groove… and we hear there’s a 36-hour New Year’s Eve party in the pipeline (we’ll keep you in the loop). But if you’d rather turn it down a notch, Magic Roundabout has that sorted, too, with three cosy and covered spaces: The Winter Woodland, Xmas Tropicana and Relax’s Scandi Christmas with all-important heaters so you can forget about those winter blues. Grab cocktails, wine, craft beer and coffees from Relax but most importantly, the team has gathered two of the best street food vendors around: Burger Bear and Food Circus. Top notch grub.

Food Circus… for those who like their vegetables disguised

This is no ordinary wrap. Food Circus, brainchild of chef Richard Watson – who you’ll often find serving on site – decided to take a twist on the regular vegetarian options by creating non-meat wraps with the appearance, taste and texture of a meaty one. Confused? We were. But just take a look at the Veggie Duck Wrap and it all becomes a little clearer: a five-spiced black bean fritter takes the place of the duck, and garnished with spring onion, cucumber, peanuts and hoisin sauce its got all the trappings of a duck in pancakes concoction. Sneaky. There’s a Veggie Lamb Wrap for those who love tahini and mint… and not a bleat in sight. But if meat’s your thing, there’s a stonking Pulled Chicken Wrap and we say give the fish some credit, with the Breaded White Fish Wrap bursting with capers, lemon, peas and spinach.

READER OFFER: Food Circus is offering you 20% off for the whole of January if you quote Street Eats London!

Burger Bear… for those who like their burgers feisty

Let’s talk burgers. Start-up favourite, Burger Bear has set up shop with its selection of meaty monsters (just take a look above). Burger Bear‘s 100% Sussex beef, grass fed on East Sussex pastures, is courtesy of Flock and Herd in Peckham. The Grizzly is served with bacon, cheese and the uber-secret recipe Bacon Jam. We asked, they wouldn’t tell. The Angry burger is not for the fainthearted, with helluvapino and #Holyfuck sauce. The antidote is the cute Koala Bear veggie burger with spiced bean, avocado salsa, coriander and lime yoghurt. But these guys are always up for a bit of experimenting, just ask them about the mac n cheese patty…
