Local Eats: Tiger Dram

Food  /

Tiger Dram’s hot pop up taking over Battersea’s Cornish Tiger is hosting a curry and whisky house bringing small, sharing plates and a great list of whiskies and ales. We headed over to discover this menu…

What to Expect

Simply find the secret door and rub the Buddha’s belly to enter. It really is about discovering the sharing plates and whiskies here: the menu will take you through the selection, showcasing what type of dishes and desserts to pair your chosen dram with. With a focus on seasonal and great British produce here you can’t go wrong at this pop up.

What to Eat

Start with the smaller sharing plates – The Soft-shell Crab Tempura with mango pickle combines tangy flavours with texture in this dish. If you’re after something that throws a nod to Indian street food, try the Papri Chaat, one of our favourites – the balance between taste and crunch is perfect!

Then there’s the Special Naan, which changes monthly. Ours was oozing with blue cheese, definitely not your usual naan, but one to add to the feast.

Next up are the curries, which you can’t leave without trying. Go for a taste of Southern Indian dishes with the Fish Curry, with coconut, curry leaf and chilli. If you’re after a meatier affair then go for the Rogan Josh Curry with slow-cooked aromatic lamb, or the Rajastan Chicken Curry. It’s a great journey between the different regions and cooking styles of Indian dishes.

What to Drink

Whiskey beginners and experts – there’s something for everyone. Zia Trench, one of the owners here, recommends trying “something smooth and sweet like The Singleton of Duffdown 12 yr old with pulled chicken curry.” And of course this is suitable for the beginners too.

If you’re after a bit of a quirky twist, try the Nikka Miyagikyo, a Japanese whisky with citrusy hints. For something with more depth in flavour, body and aroma try the Amrut Fusion India Malt which has a fruity, spicy taste.

Dessert - Kheer rice pudding

Don’t Miss

Dessert. You have to save space for the Kheer – a rice pudding with added spice and nuts. We couldn’t stop swooning over it! There’s also the Srikhand Cheesecake with curd, strawberry and tamarind, that combines great flavours with a twist. You’ll find the deconstructed element fun and unusual, but it doesn’t distract from the dessert at all.

Best for

Date night; evening with friends; Whiskey novices and experts alike.
