Go poolside over May at The Lido Cafe, with an Asian food twist. Le Bao will be serving their modern take on traditional Gua Bao – soft steamed buns – a street food dish in Taiwan, along with a few new dishes for their residency.

What is it?

Award-winning restaurant The Lido Cafeset in Brockwell Park, is a beautiful spot to cross the river for in South London’s Herne Hill. Hosting a range of street food kitchen takeovers, Le Bao is next in the line-up running every Thursday and Friday in May. Whether you choose to admire the 1930s Grade II listed outdoor swimming pool (or take a dip), this is a great spot to tuck into diverse dishes.

Who are They?

Le Bao was founded by Laetitia and Jessica when they fell in love with the Gua Bao during a trip to Taipei. Inspired by their travels and discoveries it all took off when they decided to add their own twist to the buns on the street food scene of London.

What to Try?

There’s the signature bun The Original with spicy pork confit, pickled cucumbers and powdered peanuts; heat things up with the Mary Had A Little Bao with Moroccan merguez patty, harissa mayo, cress, pomegranate seeds; or the vegetarian Say Cheese with grilled goat’s cheese, crispy shallots, rocket, caramelised onion chutney. Did we mention Le Bao’s buns are gluten-free – perfect!

If you’re after a few more dishes to share with your mates, then try the selection of new small plates including the Spicy KimchiDrunken Mussels and Grass-fed Beef Tartare topped with a quail’s egg.
