With London Restaurant Festival upon us, take yourself on a culinary journey. The Suntory Whisky Japanese Journey will see you sample a dish specially created for the Festival at five different restaurants, each dish paired with a Hakushu Highball. This journey ‘passport’ is the only passport you’ll be needing…

What to Eat

For the Japanese Journey Bó Drake have specially crafted a dish of miso-glazed ribs, a perfect fusion of east and west which will leave you suffering from FOFRO (Fear of Food Running Out…it’s a real thing). With a sweet sticky glaze and meat so tender it falls off the bone, these ribs are dangerously moreish.

Elsewhere on the Bó Drake menu (not included in the Japanese Journey) you’ll find more of their exquisite combinations of Asian cuisine and US-style BBQ joint. The Crispy Kimbab – Salmon, Stick Soy & Kewpee Mayo – is like barbequed sushi (sounds bizarre…tastes incredible), while the KFC – Korean Fried Chicken, Soy Garlic, Grapes and Rosemary – is a great Asian take on a fried chicken classic. Possibly the favourite dish of the night was the sensational Pork Belly Bao – Confit New Hampshire Belly, Pickled Cucumber & Soy Glazed Peanuts (order plenty of these).

What to Drink

Each dish on the Japanese Journey will be paired with a Hakushu Highball, the most popular whisky tipple currently served in the izakayas of Japan. Hailing from the Suntory mountain forest distillery in the forests of Mt. Kaikomagatake in the Japanese Southern Alps, Hakushu is a single malt with a gentle smokiness and lively herbal notes that is the perfect accompaniment to Japanese cuisine. Served with soda and a sprig of mint, the whisky retains its flavour in a refreshingly long drink. Whisky lovers will rejoice, and those uninitiated into the joys of whisky drinking will soon be converted…

Don’t Miss

Although not included in the Journey ‘passport’, a foray into Bó Drake’s cocktail list is highly recommended…for a Hakushu whisky cocktail with a twist, try the Dr Jekyll & Hyde – Smokey Hakushu Whisky with Plum Wine, Jalapeño Syrup, Vermouth & Smoked Hickory.

Best for…
