I used to be the least carnivorous of food lovers. Having devoured many a pink burger, pulled pork and odd cuts and parts of animals (brain, anyone?) I may have upped my game. One meal later at Hawksmoor and I’m fully converted: bring me a cow I say.

The beautiful Art Deco design at the new Knightsbridge restaurant adds an air of opulence to your dining, yet there was never any pomp from the staff, who were most helpful when choosing cocktails and cuts of meat.

There are many starters to placate your hunger: from the Hawksmoor smoked salmon to the Steak tartare, with sourdough crisps, which my friend declared as the best she’s ever had. My choice of the Tamworth belly ribs were a meat lover’s utopia – I may have been overwhelmed by the sight of mammoth hunks of meat on the plate, yet these ribs were surprisingly tender and packed with flavour.

My choice of the rib eye was a fulfilling choice – the portion was a healthy size, beautifully cooked and seasoned. The peppercorn sauce was just divine – there was no sharing of that as everyone hurriedly demanded their own pitchers.

Sides of chips and spinach were perfect complements to the meat. Our only disappointment was the lobster mac and cheese side – whilst the dish was tasty, it was more trace than taste of the lobster.

My only regret? Indulging too much in the meat to order dessert. One of our guests however did enjoy a birthday chocolate treat and just a taste of that was melt in the mouth glory.

The new Hawksmoor in Knightsbridge features the regulars – steaks from ethically-reared traditional British breeds, as well as a number of new seafood dishes including a Singapore-style Devilled Lobster, raw Citrus Scallops with Chilli & Ginger and a Lobster Roll with Sriracha & Yuzu.

A meal for two including starters, mains with three shared sides, two sauces and a bottle of wine is roughly £114.
