Clutch. Home of the chicken. Perfectly fried chicken, I should add. I’ll stay away from any finger lickin’ good references ’cause this ain’t no ordinary chicken shop.

On a bank holiday with 50% off the food menu, (well, who can refuse?) tempted by the waffles, wings and rotisserie chicken, we went for the Love Me Tenders – chicken strips with a curry leaf and sesame seasoning, and the Happy Hens – Small Clutch – a bucket, tin bucket, with two wings and two legs in a sweet soy garlic glaze. You can upgrade to a large, with four of each! We also added in twice fried fries and coleslaw for good measure. Oh, and the garlic crème fraîche. Well why not?!

And did we feast! Unless you’re sharing a lot of sides the fries are only enough for one, realistically, on a hungry appetite, while the coleslaw was a treat with pomegranates and dill – which complemented the chicken.

And the chicken? Always save the best for last. We sat wondering how we could create those chilli and soy chicken legs and thighs: a mix of sticky sauce, crunch and flavour, we devoured the lot! The Love Me Tenders, were, well, tender and with a more subtle taste.

Clutch boasts of using free range eggs and frying in only the finest grade of groundnut oil to bring you fried chicken free from cholesterol, carcinogenic and trans fats making them… “guilt-free fried chicken”.

Chicken nuggets, PFC and KFC – chuck those buckets away and get to Clutch!
