Nestled just off Trafalgar Square in the shadow of Nelson’s Column, the newly opened Boyds Grill & Wine Bar celebrates the best of British. It’s hard not to be wowed by the stunning interior – the bronze bar, marbled walls and striking chandeliers give the place an old-school yet exciting feel – and the menu certainly lives up to this.

Great British Produce Galore

Boyds Grill & Wine Bar works with top UK food producers, such as Trealy Farm (who travelled to Germany to pick up top tips on meat technology); Trenchmore Farm (who breed their Wagyu cows with Red Sussex cattle), and James Knight, whose fresh fish is less than 24 hours out of the water. The pride in their produce is palpable and translates into the excellent dishes on the menu.

What to Try

Boyds takes pride in sourcing all its ingredients from British producers and adding a global twist using international cooking techniques. Try the Sipsmith Cured Salmon with Daikon and Buttermilk Sorbet – a favourite on flavours. Go East with the Seven-Hour Braised Leg of Lamb with Tandoori Spice, Carrot and Citrus Mousseline, which literally melted in the mouth (I could have eaten five). There are some more classic dishes, like the Macaroni and Wookey Hole Cheddar with BBQ Sauce (heaven in a bite) and the Cornish Beef Tomahawk Steak with Béarnaise Sauce.

Ice-cream is no longer the boring option on the menu: have liquid Nitrogen lollipops made in front of you using flavours made up that day (sweetcorn, bacon, pea & mint). Also try the Dragon’s Breath – I won’t ruin the surprise…

You’ll never drink wine the same way again

The wine on offer is not all British, although the Nyetimber sparkling wine is fine indeed. Wines are sourced from all over the world and general manager Fabien Babanini has brought his enthusiasm and immense knowledge of wine to the table, even down to the shape of the glass you drink from – you won’t believe the difference this makes!

Best for…

Boyds offers both formal and informal dining areas, including the Kitchen Bar, a relaxing lounge and the dining room. The menu will be the same, no matter where you sit. It’s perfect, whether you’re grabbing a quick bite before the theatre, catching up with friends, or going the whole hog (British hog, of course).
