This is the first venture for Middle Eastern pop up Origins Of, a labour of love created by childhood friends Abdullah Amin and Hugo Toland.

Who are They?

Origins Of is about just that – taking something at its origin and injecting it with innovation and enthusiasm. They are currently at Blessing’s for the next three months, but will be experimenting and developing as they go – watch this space.

Following rave reviews from family and friends, the duo decided to take their fresh new take on Middle Eastern food to the next level. The food is a mix of traditional family recipes and innovative twists on classic Middle Eastern dishes, complemented by the relaxed yet buzzing vibe of Blessing’s.

What to Try…

There are three main dishes on offer, though we’ve been told this is just the beginning… The spice-infused buttermilk fried chicken is Abdullah’s signature dish, offering a delicate flavour. The spice-infused buttermilk cauliflower is equally delicious (plus cauliflower is so in this season, in case you hadn’t heard) while the beetroot and ginger falafel gives a breath of life to a well-loved classic. Chargrilled flatbreads are sourced from a secret and much in-demand London supplier and these are accompanied by a range of flavoursome dips, a few favourites being the scotch bonnet mayo, tahini hype, and chilli hot sauce.

Origins Of is the perfect spot to share platters with friends

What to Drink…

The Middle Eastern theme extends to the cocktail list – try the Origins Of Sour, an aromatic vodka sour with the intriguing addition of ginger and cardamom infused syrup.

Best for…

Classic Middle Eastern fare with a twist, made simply but with quality ingredients; the chicken is free-range and herb-fed, while the veg is straight from New Covent Garden Market. You can order the dishes individually, as baskets, or as platters, so perfect whether you’re going for a quick bite with a friend or with a party to feast!

Don’t miss…

The buttermilk is homemade, following Abdullah’s original and unique recipe which he created in the absence of any buttermilk in Kazakhstan, where he was living and working at the time. Whatever’s in it, we love it.
