Balans Soho Society has launched a new spot in Seven Dials, and it has it all – devour brunch, sharers, burgers, or simply pull up a stool and sample the hot cocktail list.
What to Expect
Think high society… but turned to the dark side, with twists on classic breakfast, brunch large dishes (and cocktails) from dawn ’til dusk.
What to Eat
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and Balans Soho Society take this very seriously, serving innovative takes on the daily ritual from 8am to 12pm. How do you like your eggs? What about Steak & Eggs; stacked in a Pancake; scrambled in a Breakfast Burrito; with lobster in the High Society Eggs Benedict; or feisty with tomato chilli sauce in Eggs in Hell. Not much of an early-riser? Many of these dishes make it into the brunch menu, too.

Clockwise from top: Moroccan Lamb and Apricot Meatballs, Pulled Duck Tacos, Coconut Shrimp
As lunch rolls around, we think the best approach is to order a selection of the sharing dishes. We opted for the Pulled Duck Taco with habanero sauce; Morroccan Lamb and Apricot Meatballs with preserved lemon and chermoulla marinade; and the stand-out Coconut Shrimp with mango salsa, sweet and sour essence.

Eating small means there’s always room for dessert, Balans Soho Society have a changing pudding menu on the blackboard, and if you’re lucky enough to be there when they’re serving up the Vegan Chocolate Cake it’s a glorious day.

What to Drink
One word (well four): Great Balls of Fire! This cocktail, complete with Fireball cinnamon whisky, lemon and egg white, is a great accompaniment to dessert, or a warming tipple as the nights draw in. If whisky’s not your thing, there’s the refreshing Slap ‘n’ Tickle with lemongrass infused Broker’s gin, elderflower and lemon, or the Panama Cream (pictured top) served in a cheeky glass milk bottle with Ron Abuelo rum, strawberry, lime and coconut. There’s also a selection of wines by the glass or the bottle, as well as bubbles. We’d expect nothing less.

Best for…
If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Covent Garden then this is your spot – hidden just off the famous Seven Dials. It’s the kind of place where it feels comfortable dining alone (you can pick a seat in the window and watch the world go by) or take a friend for a boozy brunch.

Don’t Miss
We have been reliably informed that the The Infamous Balans Burger lives up to its name; a mountain of cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, dill pickle, red onion all inside a brioche bun and served with double-dipped chips.
