Top 5 at Summer Brew Fest

Drink  /

12 tokens, one third-pint glass and a sunny afternoon at Summer Brew Fest. We got through as many of those tokens (one was lost) and tasted many ales, lagers, ciders and cocktails!

Here are our top five tastes and where you can find them:

For an unusual taste

1. The Eve – Elderflower Sour from Orbit Beers: tart, tangy and light, this was refreshingly sharp. If you have sour taste buds like me, you’ll love this. Buy Orbit Beers online or in many London pubs and restaurants!

2. For the cider lovers (yes, we know it’s not beer)

Thistly Cross’s Whisky Cask Cider is matured in ex-Glen Moray whisky casks. This had a beautifully smooth and mellow taste and texture. For sweeter tastes, try the elderflower or strawberry ciders. They may be based in Scotland, but the ciders are available to buy online or in many pubs in London. Perfect for Summer!

3. For a hint of citrus

One Mile End’s Citrus Crush Saison was a cloudy one and easy to drink, with a delicious taste of citrus fruits. One Mile End’s beers can be tried at The White Hart Brew Pub, as they brew beneath the pub!

4. For the pale ale drinker in you

We couldn’t decide between three. From Gipsy Hill’s tropical hop flavours in the Beatnik, to Hammerton Brewery’s N1, to Three Sods Brewery’s Solstice. Hammerton may have just had the edge as we went back for more! Hammerton Brewery do tours every Friday and Saturday of the last weekend of the month. Head to Gispy Hill’s Brewery Tap Room every Saturday.

5. For lager lovers

The India Hells Lager from Camden Town Brewery was crisp and full of flavour. Camden Town Brewery’s beers are stocked in 400 or so pubs, bars and restaurants in London.

Ok, so here’s an extra…Refreshing cocktail mixes.

The Hawkes ‘N’ Stormy (dark and stormy) ginger beer mixed with rum was a perfect throw in amid all that beer. Hawkes’ ginger beer is made from a blend of ginger, mandarin and kiwi, leaving you with a natural and fruity taste with that ginger kick.

And for food, well we soaked it all up with Oh My Dog! and Pizza from Peel and Chimney!

Stay tuned for further events from the guys at Summer Brew Fest and UBREW.
